Warehouse CCTV planning is mainly about coverage, camera placement and reliable recording. Large open areas, entrances, loading points and stock access routes may each require different camera positions.
Map the warehouse
Identify entrances, loading areas, aisles, storage zones and restricted access points. Decide what each camera needs to monitor and where the viewing distance is greatest.
Consider camera height and viewing angle
High mounting positions can cover broad areas, but the final image still depends on the lens, distance and angle. Avoid placing cameras where shelving or structures block important views.
Consider lighting
Warehouses can have uneven lighting, dark areas and strong light from doors or windows. Check both daytime and night conditions before selecting camera positions.
Choose the camera system
IP cameras can be useful for network-based installations, while compatible wired CCTV systems can be practical where dedicated cabling is planned. Wi-Fi cameras may suit certain smaller or specific areas when wireless coverage is appropriate.

Plan recording and storage
Large numbers of cameras can generate significant recording data. Plan the NVR or XVR, camera count, resolution, recording schedule and storage retention together.

For IP cameras, plan network switches, PoE where applicable, cable routes and NVR location. For larger installations, consider how the network will be expanded if more cameras are added later.
